Interesting info about these photos

When I started scanning my father’s old negatives, I knew there were some images of neat old airplanes.  And there were lots of them that held no interest for me.

Once I got involved, I began to find all sorts of interesting things.  And this website is my way of sharing them with you.

Here’s an example:  The plane in the photo below is a Short 330; there’s another Short model, the 360 that pretty much looks the same; only difference is the passenger capacity.

This Short 330 carried 30 passengers; used at the Kwajalein missile range when I worked there.  It’s used all over the world; comfortable airplane, air conditioned, twin turboprop engines.

These airplanes were also manufactured by the Short Brothers.  Back in the early 1930’s.

They were called the “C” class flying boats.  Notice that they all had names beginning with “C”.  Cabot, Caribou, Caldonia, and one called “Cavalier” which probably should have been named “Calamity”.  It ended up making an open ocean ditching.

Keep in mind; these flying boats were at the forefront of technology.  Transatlantic flights were a new thing in the 1930’s.
