Old Airplanes from Walter’s Collection

John says this is a version of the Consolidated Commodore built for the Navy.  It was designated “X201” which implies “experimental” and was manufactured by the Consolidated Aircraft Corporation of Buffalo, New York.

Not all landings were happy ones.  I have no idea what the story is here but I found it interesting that the surfaces of the airplane appear to be fabric and the guy taking notes looks like a regular policeman.  The words on the tail say, “Manufactured by Amphibions Inc. Garden City, L.I., N.Y.”  I’m not sure about the location of this crash.

This photo shows the two hangars at the Port Washington facility.  The newer one on the left was built by Pan Am.  Neither one exists today.
