Old Airplanes from Walter’s Collection Old Airplanes from Walter’s Collection

If you’ve gotten this far, I assume you enjoyed the old photos.  My father was a photography nut and used our basement for his darkroom.  I remember his joy at being able to get a Zeiss-Ikon camera from Germany at some point.  Probably picked it up on a “route check”.  The “route check” was a tour of the various places that a dispatcher would send airplanes.  And since he worked in New York, that would be pretty much anywhere Pan Am flew.

If you want to contact me...

My email is oldplanephotos@gmail.com

Here’s why you might want to contact me:

  1. You might find errors that I should correct.  John Underwood sure found plenty and I thank him for that.
  2. You might want better definition pictures based on what you see here.  The images on the website may not print out very well since the resolution needed for computer viewing is much less than what you’d want for a nice print.  I can supply (within reason) images in TIFF format suitable for printing at a size of 8x10 or larger if you like.  I have all the negatives of the images on this site.
  3. In some cases, I haven’t shown all the pictures I have of a particular airplane.  I can supply more if you’d like.  Of course, sometimes, what you see is what I’ve got.

Meanwhile, here’s another unknown.  Email me if you recognize it.  Enjoy.

Walter’s retirement plaque says, “41 years Pan Am flying boats to jets”.

I’m glad he took the time to document his career with these pictures.
