Kwajalein, Marshall Islands
1973 to 1975

This is a radar (or part of one) used as a test platform for the missile defense system known as the Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) system.

It’s the reason I had a job in Kwajalein.

The radar is located on a tiny island named Meck.  It’s a half hour plane ride from where we lived on Kwaj.

The daily routine was to ride my bike to the airport and hop on the 30 seat Caribou.

The Caribou short take-off and landing airplane.

Have a seat and watch the pilots drive.

This padding on the interior is a (futile) attempt to keep the noise down.

The back end is opened for fresh air on a hot day.

Closed during flight.

This is where you park your bike.
